This is swap in the back of my mind as well, but so far the VG I'm my track car is hanging tough. The biggest concern I have with the LS is the oiling problems reported on high G road courses when using slicks. Having to dry sump it adds more cost and complication with the install. Your cam issues reinforce my instinct to say with stock cams on VG, I must say I have had good luck with it so far. But I do see the oil pressure fluctuating on hard left turns... :\
